Alvin Ailey's success and life
Alvin Ailey was born in Rogers,Texas in a small and poor town called Navasota at the day of January 5,1931. At the age of 2, his father separated from his mother. He attended church, and quickly got inspired to the music the churches played. He soon moved to Los Angeles with his mother at 12 years old, and his success life began. Alvin Ailey was considered a gifted student in Los Angeles. He exceeded at language and athletics like dancing. But after seeing the Russe de Monte Carlo perform, he grew even more fond of dancing. He began to study with a famous dance teacher known as Lester Horton in 1949. He joined Hortons dance company the following year. In 1954, Alvin Ailey appeared in a Broadway Debut in Truman Capote's musical House of Flowers.
He also performed in The Carefree Tree in 1955, and Jamaica in 1957. Alvin Ailey got to visit New York and learn from Martha Graham and got to perform with Stella Adler. Alvin Ailey won total fame when he invented his own dance company in 1958. He made the musical Revelations and Blues Suite. Revelations comes from bloody memories from his childhood while Blues Suite comes from his southern roots. During the 1960’s, Alvin Ailey introduced his company to everyone. The U.S Department soon sponsored his company. That helped Alvin Ailey’s company gain a international reputation. Alvin Ailey also performed in Asian countries and performed in South Africa too. Alvin Ailey stopped performing in the mid 1960’s but he still continued to choreograph many musical numbers and he formed the Alvin Ailey American Dance Center now called the Ailey school.
In 1974, Alvin Ailey expanded his dance company by creating the Alvin Ailey Repertory Ensemble. In Alvin Ailey’s final years, he had been honored by the Kennedy Center for his contributions to dancing. Sadly, this accomplishment came close to the end of his life. Alvin Ailey died in New Yorks hospital Lenox Hill on Dec. 1, 1989 by AIDS. Alvin AIley's dream was to end segregation. He had almost succeeded. Though he is not here today, his effort and leadership will always be remembered.
