Childhood and EducationAs a child Eli Whitney grew up on his family's farm and had chores on there, but the truth was Eli actually enjoyed being in his father's workshop that (As said before) repaired and made gardening tools. One day at age 19 Eli Whitney made an announcement that he wanted to go to college but they were poor so he had to raised the money himself.he looked for a teaching job and was successful, in Grafton,Massachusetts as a schoolmaster.his salary was small but enough to pay for a tuition at Leicester Academy. his father heard that Eli was "an excellent scholar and ought by all means to go to college". So his father provided enough money for college.Eli decided to go in Yale College in New Haven Connecticut.

What He Was Known For and What He Did AfterwardsProbably the best thing he was known for is the cotton gin.Cleaning cotton by hand was hard and it hurt so Eli Whitney made the cotton gin was mostly made to clean the cotton cleanly and easily. This was intentionally made for easier work for the slave in the time of slavery unfortunately this made growing cotton and having slaves more popular in the south. To make matters worse the idea of the cotton gin was stolen and copied. He took the "idea thieves" to the court but lost his first case.It was ten years before he finally won back the credit for the invention. After this frustrating case Eli Whitney turned to manufacturing arms(guns),and for the rest of his life he made more inventions like canes and ladies’ hatpins.
Sadly Eli Whitney died at January,8th,1825 in New Haven,Connecticut Isn't it cool that Eli died in the place where he went to for college, and he was born and he died on the same date but different years and he also died the next month of when he was born. 12/8/1765-1/8/1825 Eli Whitney also helped develop the concept of american manufacturing and pushed the "interchangeable parts" mode of production. The MemorialI thought a fitting memorial for Eli Whitney would be a garden next to Yale college, with a pedestal (made of copper) in the middle and and a cotton gin (made of copper) on the pedestal and a picture of Eli Whitney behind it and a copper platform like an umbrella above so it lasts for a long time and the copper platform represents his title of "The Father of American Technology". I chose copper as a material for the pedestal because that represents his invention still exists (because copper stays for a long time) and over time copper can change and that represents his Idea of the cotton gin is growing better and is changing.
