"Music to me is like
breathing - I don't get tired of breathing, I don't get tired of music. |
Early life
Ray Charles was born 1930. His mother and father were never really married, but Ray never got to see his father. When he was an infant his family moved to Greenville, Florida. At the age of five his brother George died by drowning in a wastub which, back in the old days is what they used to wash cloths. Rays brother drowned by playing around near it and axadently fell in, Ray tried to save George but he was too heavy. After 1 minute went by it was too late, his brother was dead. A few months later Ray started going blind.
Disability
A few months after George's death Ray started going blind. By the age of seven Ray was fully blind, his mother tried to help him to walk around without running into anything, but when he was 15 years old his mother died, so she couldn't help him anymore. 2 years after Ray's mother died his father died.

After Ray graduated from Saint Augustine he traveled all across Florida performing with country and western bands. That was an experience that helped later, When he added western songs to his performance. Shortly after he began touring with rhythm and blue bands. He played the piano, clarinet, and saxophone. Ray Charles loves music so much he said in his own words "I'm going to do it until God himself says, 'Brother Ray, you've been a nice horse, but now I'm going to put you out to pasture.'" my tribute/memorial
My tribute/memorial is the state of Georgia glued on top of a piece of wood. The state of Georgia resembles wear he was born. on top of the wood will be a piano with a seat and on top of the piano will be sunglasses that Ray Charles wore his whole life so knowbody would know that he was blind. next to the seat will be a microphone that people in the old days would sing in to. It was not all the same if you wanted to move it you would have to move the stick with it.
All the wood is stained. If I could put this anyware in the world it would be in Greenville, Flordia because that is where he was born. It would be made out of granit because that can withstand alot.
